It Started in a She-Shed

Twelve years in banking. Then, in 2019, I traded my desk for a 10x10 shed in my backyard.

Yes. A shed.

No flooring. Bare paneling. Exposed beams right over your head.

I hung sheer curtains to hide the disaster, put in an AC unit, and called it a studio.

And somehow? It WORKED.

My clients loved it. They told me it felt cozy. And honestly, it was.

From a shed to a salon

From that little shed, I opened my own salon. A multi-room space I started myself, and later shared with my commission girls.

I'm proud of that place. I built it.

Today I'm back in one room. Different walls. Same pair of hands.

Would I go back?

Some days, I miss it.

Running inside between clients to start dinner. Throwing in a load of laundry. Letting the dogs out. Watering my plants. Or stealing a few minutes in the hammock in my backyard.

And some of my clients have told me they miss it too.

But I've come to love having a line between home and work. My home gets to be home. My studio gets to be my studio.

So no, I wouldn't go all the way back. (Where I live isn't zoned for it anyway.)

Why I'm telling you this

Because I want you to know where I came from.

A shed with sheer curtains. A salon I built. One room today.

I've done big. I've done small. And I'd go right back to simple if I had to, because either way, I can make it work.

And so can you.
